OUR STORY

The story of Math Buzzz begins 10 years ago. No . . . actually this story begins long before that. This story begins with a little girl afraid of math.

She was scared of the math teacher but most of all she was afraid of trying and failing. This little girl believed she couldn’t do math at all and she would never be able to do math because she was just not good at it. Worst of all, she was told math is not important and that she will probably never use math in her daily life, so, she doesn’t need it.

Growing up this little girl realised numbers and patterns are part of everything that we are and do. It is everywhere, in nature, in business, in science, in life . . . From the financial professions to medical professions, from farming to teaching, from theology to art, from computer science to programming – we all need it every day, every hour, every minute . . .

Eventually this little girl was all grown up and had a family of her own and the need to master math grew as much as the passion for working with young children. Early childhood seemed to be the best place to start for a solid foundation of math.

The passion slowly grew into a dream. A dream of changing the negative connotation people like herself have to math. Changing the standard of math education and changing the standard of math in itself throughout South Africa.

Math can be great. Math is fun and “I am good at math!”

So yes, 10 years ago Math Buzzz started making a difference, touching lives, seeing change. We started with a small group of students, and we are currently making a difference in the lives of over 430 students in North West. We have 6 Franchises and 12 Facilitators working hard to educate themselves to be able to help the students even more. This story is mostly about the math – and it adds up, but mare than the math it is about your child understanding math and loving it!

The foundation for reading and spelling in a mother tongue are as imperitive as math. Starting at an early age gives them this advantage. With klankies (as with math) we do sensory based teaching, helping the faciliator a chance to identify visual, auditory or linguistic problems – should there be any. With klankies (as with math) we do sensory based teaching, helping the faciliator a chance to identify visual, auditory or linguistic problems – should there be any.
